Greetings from Oxford

I am currently visiting the well-known university town Oxford (UK), where I have given an invited research seminar at the Edward Grey Institute, which belongs to the famous Department of Zoology at South Parks Road. It has been very stimulating, as usual when interacting with research colleagues, and there has also been plenty of times for walking in the city and enjoying several pints of nice bitter!

I can strongly recommend a visit to Oxford with its cosy and history-laden academic atmosphere. Enjoy the pictures!

  1. Don't agree with Shawn on this. As nice as Oxford is, it is cold.
The weather has turned a little here. It has been raining for a few days and this will continue for the rest of the week. As a result the temp has dropped dramatically, it is now only +24......brrrr
Please don't feel too sorry for me, it is predicted to rise again by the end of the week and by the weekend we should be +30. Phew!

  2. Gosh Tom, it's at least +40 here. Anyway, photos of pints of beer tend to get me fired up.

  3. Hmmm.... guess the Fahrenheit/Celsius joke fell a bit flat. It wasn't a good joke anyway. But the part about liking photos of beer is real. =-)

  4. Considering the people who use this board, the demographic for the joke was quite limited, americans and english people over 50. As I fit into half of one category you got a chuckle from me.

And just because nobody laughs doesn't make a joke bad, just means the audience are not refined enough to appreciate the wit behind the gag (that's what I tell myself when any of my jokes fall flat).

Saw your PNAS paper in the latest e-mail alert, nice work!

  5. Thanks, dude! I'm happy with that paper. Ammon, of course, deserves credit for being the mastermind. By the way: Ammon has just started a postdoc up in Uppsala.
